Among the distilled spirits, vodka is the purest and most neutral drink, having no special taste, smell or color.
Vodka can be obtained from whole grains that contain sufficient sugar. But the first choice in quality vodka is rye.
Then barley, wheat and potatoes are preferred. Apart from this, corn and grapes are also used.
As with other drinks, countries determine the raw materials of the drink according to the products they grow. Usually the situation is as follows:
- Russian and Swedish vodkas are made mainly from wheat,
- Finnish vodkas are made from barley,
- Polish vodkas are made from rye and potatoes,
-American vodkas are made from corn.
The main factor that determines the quality and character of vodka is the grain and method it is produced from, rather than its country of origin.
