- Although "agave", the raw material of tequila, is known as a type of cactus, it is actually a species of lily family.

- There are approximately 300 types of agave plants.

- Only "blue agave", that is, "Agave Tequilana Azul", is used in making tequila.

- Mexican natives call this plant "maguey".

- Agave takes between 8 and 12 years to mature. As the plant matures, the sugar content increases and becomes suitable for tequila production.

- The belly of a developed plant weighs between 35 and 135 kilos.

- The taste of agave grown in high regions is heavy and sweet. The taste of plants grown in lower regions and plains is more fruit-scented and lighter.

- Regions where agave production is on the "Unesco World Heritage" list.

- Agave has been grown in Mexico for about 9 thousand years.

- Aztecs dedicated the drink they obtained from agave sap, which they considered sacred, to the Great Mayan God Olmeca 2000 years ago.
