There are currently approximately 20 distilleries in Japan. It is quite difficult to give an exact number because a new one is added to these distilleries every day. However, there are also many Sake, Shōchū and Gin producers who have received licenses to produce whiskey but have not started production yet. For example; Masahiro, Hioki, Kumazawa and Hikari are manufacturers that received licenses at the beginning of this year.
As I mentioned at the beginning of my article, since there are very few sources about Japanese whiskeys, we do not know exactly if these producers started whiskey production.
